The name ‘Damask rose’ comes from Robert de Brie, a French crusader who brought the rose back to Europe following the siege of Damascus. An epic Journey taken by such an Iconic and Delicate flower. Damask rose is a hybrid of two other species: Rosa Gallica and Rosa Moschata. It does not grow in the wild, but must be carefully cultivated, and people have been cultivating this rose for centuries. It is believed that Ancient Romans used these very rose petals to scent their wines and collected them with the goddess of love. Beyond being known for its heady fragrance, the Damask rose has long been used for rose oil or “attar of roses”, and is commonly used to flavour food and make rose water. Benefits : the Damask Rose is known to have anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce redness of irritated skin and rid your skin of acne. It aids in removing oil and dirt accumulated in clogged pores , and maintain skin’s pH balance as well as control excess oil secretions. Lastly it helps in healing scars, cuts and wounds with its Anti-bacterial properties.
