It is a universally accepted fact that your hairstyle makes or breaks your outfit and eventually your personality. Those perfectly straight locks or iconic beachy waves look so good. But they come at a price and no we're not talking about the price tag here. We're talking about your hair! That's right. Who would've thought making your hair look pretty could damage it too?

The Downside of a Keratin Treatment

Keratin treatments have to be the most popular of all hair treatments available. Say goodbye and good riddance to frizzy hair! Well, while you're at it, you can say goodbye to your hair health too! Firstly, lets clear something. The term 'keratin' treatment is a misnomer. So, keratin is a naturally occurring protein found in the hair. Treatments such as keratin involve coating each strand with a strong chemical. The hair is then heated to activate the formula.

There are a couple of things that are problematic about this. Firstly, formaldehyde - a known carcinogen - is used in this treatment. Formaldehyde is released when you heat the hair. Bad news! The second troubling thing is the heat being applied to your hair. Too much heat is really damaging! If too much heat is applied or your hair is over-straightened, your hair will break faster. If your hair is already damaged and you still get this treatment done then that's just a lot of trouble!

Often noticed people with chemically treated hair that looks really dry and lifeless? Well, thank the chemicals for that!

Now, don't take this all the wrong way. If you've got some special events coming up, there's nothing wrong with getting a keratin treatment done once in a while. The problem is when this becomes a way of life. Prolonged exposure to such chemicals and heat will essentially ruin your hair!

What Happens When Your Hair Takes The Heat

Well, that's keratin sorted out. Let's talk about something simpler - heat. When you're in a rush to get to work, it is most definitely not cool to walk out the door with wet hair. For one, it looks really unprofessional! So who can blame you for pulling out the gold old hairdryer and blasting your hair with some hot air? Or, when you have to go to a party, you can't go with that frizzy mane! In comes the hair straightener or curler to save the day!

While all these tools seem like lifesavers, they're not the best for your hair! In today's world, we have a lot of factors that damage the hair - sun (yes UV rays damage the hair too!), pollution, dust, dirt, debris etc. To top it all, we're constantly subjecting our hair to heat. Imagine the damage!

At this point of time, it all seems trivial. We're making a mountain out of a molehill you say. After all, your hair is fine right now, right? Wrong. Each time you apply heat to your hair, your hair grows thinner, weaker and more brittle. The roots become weaker and gradually hair fall increases. In fact, blow drying strips your hair of surface moisture as well as the water bound to your hair. That's why the hair can feel flaky sometimes. Excessive heat to the scalp can also lead to dandruff!

So take care of your hair. Treat it with love and a gentle hand. Our organic and toxin-free shampoos are ideal for maintaining good health. Stay away from all the toxic and chemical nasties and embrace a natural approach! We should be more comfortable and liberal towards our natural hair. Embrace who you are and give your hair some much needed TLC!
